چکیده

Introduction Precise anatomical knowledge of the great vessels of the neck and thorax and their variations is essential for safe anesthesia, intensive care practice, placement of central venous catheters, pacemaker implantation using the transvenous approach, etc. Occurrence of persistent left superior vena cava (SVC) with absent right SVC are venous system variations that could impede such procedures. Persistent left SVC in 80% of the cases is found to co-exist with the right SVC [1]. Its association with absence of right SVC is unusual. In the present case we report multiple venous variations occurring simultaneously in the same cadaver.

Systemic-to-pulmonary venous shunt in superior vena cava obstruction.

Superior vena cava obstruction is associated with multiple venous collaterals. There is an unusual pathway involving pulmonary venous collaterals in which systemic veins drain directly into the left heart, resulting in a right-to-left shunt. We report here a rare case of systemic to pulmonary venous shunt on both hemithoraces in superior vena cava obstruction associated with Budd-Chiari syndrom...

Persistent left superior vena cava with absent right superior vena cava detected during emergent coronary artery bypass grafting surgery

Although persistent left superior vena cava (PLSVC) itself is a common venous anomaly in congenital heart disease, PLSVC with absent right superior vena cava (RSVC) is a rare venous congenital malformation. Due to the lack of symptoms, this malformation is often detected fortuitously when patients undergo central venous catheter placement, pacemaker implantation, or open cardiac surgery. This p...

Discovering persistent left superior vena cava ( PLSVC ) during Pacemaker implantation

Persistent left superior vena cava (PLSVC) is rare but important congenital vascular anomaly. It results when the left superior cardinal vein caudal to the innominate vein fails to regress. It is most commonly observed in isolation but can be associated with other cardiovascular abnormalities including atrial septal defect, bicuspid aortic valve, coarctation of aorta, coronary sinus and ostial ...

Persistent left superior vena cava draining to the left atrium: A case report and review of the literature

BACKGROUND Persistent left superior vena cava is a rare but important congenital vascular anomaly. However, PLSVC with absent RSVC (isolated PLSVC) is a very rare venous malformation We report on a rare case of persistent left superior vena cava (PLSVC) with absent right superior vena cava (RSVC). CASE REPORT This venous malformation was identified incidentally in a 69-year-old woman during c...

Isolated Persistent Left Superior Vena Cava: A Case Report and its Clinical Implications

The venous anomaly of a persistent left superior vena cava (PLSVC) affects 0.3%-0.5% of the general population. PLSVC with absent right superior vena cava, also termed as "isolated PLSVC," is an extremely rare venous anomaly. Almost half of the patients with isolated PLSVC have cardiac anomalies in the form of atrial septal defect, endocardial cushion defects, or tetralogy of Fallot. Isolated P...
